Teamwork: The Key to Success

In any sporting event, school work or any kind of group activity, teamwork is the basis of your team’s success. If your group has great teamwork, everyone will be able to work better together and become more functional producing high quality results.

For example, in a basketball team, if only one member of the team performs 101 percent, while the others settle for mediocrity, no matter how hard and good this certain player performs, the others’ performance would bring the whole team down. Efforts exerted will not have any great effect on the group, if not all members working to their full potential. Having the best player among all the teams cannot guarantee a place in the finals. Even if not everyone are star players, if they work amazing with each other and communicate well with each other, then that would give them a higher possibility of becoming champions.

The same goes for teamwork in the workplace. No matter how hard other employees work, even if there is only one person who does mediocre work, it would really affect the whole group’s performance. A lot of work cannot be done on time if some members of the whole group keep on breaking the whole team’s work momentum through frequent tardiness or absences.

There will really be moments when members of the department would feel burned out and lose the drive to work really hard. When this happens, team leaders should take control of this situation and talk to the whole group and inspire them to become more productive and competent workers. Perhaps they could host team building activities to promote a better relationship with other team members. Through these activities, the workers could get a break from work pressure for a short while, and at the same time work on their work attitude.

The key to having good teamwork within the company is to have every member of the team realize their individual importance. They should understand that all of them really matter which is why even the slightest action concerning work could really affect the whole team. If they understand how they matter in the team, then maybe they would be inspired to work harder so as not to let the whole team down. There should also be occasional team building activities which give the workers and management a break from work related activities and strengthen the relationship among all of them. If a team develops good teamwork, then it would be no surprise if they gain success from every project they take over.
